‘Outstanding’: Funder’s Verdict on Latest Project

Planet Leicester Bakers is delighted with the response of ‘outstanding’ from funders Time to Change Leicester to our latest community project. The idea for Leicester Bread Clubs was first promoted in edition 3 of Planet Leicester News in  2017. The project report (available as a PDF here) details the first Leicester Bread Clubs project, which has been developed and delivered in partnership with Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust.

The funders were delighted with the report as well, feeling that it was ‘incredibly comprehensive’ and ‘a great mix of statistics and stories that captured the impact the project has had for service users’. The media release gives a flavour of the success of the project: Read More

The ‘Almost Award Winning’ Bakery of the 1/2 Year!

It’s been a busy first half of the year with awards happening here and there.As you may have read in the previous post, Planet Leicester Bakers was shortlisted in the ‘Heart of Gold’ category at this year’s national Small Awards. The awards celebrate small businesses and this category was recognising services to the community.

It was a lovely evening at Mary’s Church, Marylebone, London. With a three course meal and plenty of refreshment! We weren’t in luck with the award, which went to Bee Naturals, but I thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with fellow Fulham Bread Angel Liz (aka Ma Baker) and making plenty of connections.

A few weeks earlier in April Planet Leicester Bakers also missed out in the national Small Food Award bread category. (You may be aware we picked up a top 3 place in the Viennoiserie category in 2016).

This time the Amalfi Lemon and Poppyseed loaf came 4th – which was brilliant. All three top places went to Bread Angels, which in itself reflects the quality of bread baker the network is home to.

Planet Leicester Bakers is proud to share the first edition of its newsletter, Planet Leicester News!

It is hoped that the newsletter will be published twice yearly, giving the many Planet Leicester Bakers, our customers and supporters, an opportunity to keep up to date with everything we’ve been up to!

This first edition includes some sourdough history from guest contributor Concepta Cassar, a competition with a fabulous prize from Bread Angels founder Jane Mason, and lots of news from the past year of Planet Leicester Bakers.

2016: A Happy, Bready, Tasty New Year!

So much happened for Planet Leicester Bakers in 2015 that it’s hard to imagine 2016 being even better – but it will be!

Looking back, 2015 was the first full calendar year for the start-up, with tremendously exciting developments.  Securing a place on the Lloyds Bank Programme with the School for Social Entrepreneurs was a major achievement. Coupled with the launch of the flagship ‘Sharing Bread’ community project it made for busy times.

Sharing Bread has been wonderful.  Every group has embraced the sessions with laughter.  We now have over 50 Silver Star Planet Leicester Bakers and 7 Gold Stars from all corners of Leicestershire.
