So much happened for Planet Leicester Bakers in 2015 that it’s hard to imagine 2016 being even better – but it will be!
Looking back, 2015 was the first full calendar year for the start-up, with tremendously exciting developments. Securing a place on the Lloyds Bank Programme with the School for Social Entrepreneurs was a major achievement. Coupled with the launch of the flagship ‘Sharing Bread’ community project it made for busy times.
Sharing Bread has been wonderful. Every group has embraced the sessions with laughter. We now have over 50 Silver Star Planet Leicester Bakers and 7 Gold Stars from all corners of Leicestershire.
So what for 2016? Well, January’s diary is packed, ending on what will be a very high note: four day training at Welbeck’s School of Artisan Food. The training place is funded by the Big Lottery and is going to be fabulous! Other funding initiatives are in the pipeline, including looking for further funding for Sharing Bread. This will build on the pilot and will hopefully result in a slightly more focussed but nonetheless great development of the project.
As a social enterprise it is vital to get private funding initiatives underway to make community work
possible, so Planet Leicester Bakers will be introducing exciting new opportunities for local people – the first being the offer of Bread Angel training locally. So, if you are interested in developing your own micro-bakery business watch this space (or get in touch!).
June can’t come soon enough with the first formal public speaking engagement: a Women’s Institute talk booked in Nuneaton. In between now and then there is plenty on the to do list. Just before Easter PLB will be returning to the Community House in Earl Shilton to deliver a sweet dough follow up to the Sharing Bread training. We will also be looking for sponsorship for a quarterly newsletter so we can extend our communications off-line for those not connected. If your business is interested in supporting us with this then do get in touch!
So now I must go and shape some dough for the German Muesli Stangen, and head out to meet Andy, my incredibly supportive Lloyds Bank mentor. A very Happy New Year to you all!
